Early today, January 17, 2024, a resident of Purok 3, Alae, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, discovered a bird in his yard unable to fly. Mr. Jimmy Dades, the concerned resident, could not identify the bird and promptly reported the situation to both the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). It was then revealed that the bird is a Black Crowned Night Heron. Unfortunately, it was observed to have a wing injury, likely inflicted by a slingshot or airgun, rendering it incapable of flight.
The wounded bird was referred to the Protected Areas and Wildlife Division (PAWD) of DENR 10 for rehabilitation before it will be sent back to the wild.
