MARIFE RAVIDAS GANAHON, a Higaonon mat weaver from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon has been declared as Manlilikha ng Bayan for 2023 pursuant to Proclamation No. 427 signed by President Ferdinand R Marcos, Jr last December 15, 2023. Ganahon is recognized for her commitment to safeguarding and promoting the Higaonon ikam (mat weaving) tradition. She becomes a National Living Treasure.




Eight other individuals engaged in unique Filipino traditional art and whose distinctive skills have reached a high level of technical and artistic excellence were also proclaimed Manlilikha ng Bayan. They are as follows:

Abina Tawide Coguit for Agusan Manobo Embroidery
Haja Sakinur-ain Mugong Delasas for Sama Dance
Bundos Bansil Fara for T’boli Brasscasting
Amparo Balansi Mabanag for Ga’dang Beadworks and Embroidery
Samporonia Pagsac Madanlo for Mandaya Textile Weaving
Barbara Kibed Ofong for T’boli Textile Weaving
Rosie Godwino Sula for T’boli Chanting

According to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the meticulous selection process of the award led to the selection of the nine cultural masters who represent the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Philippines. These masters embody the exceptional skills and expertise that are integral to the country’s intangible cultural heritage. Their recognition serves as a noteworthy reminder of the immense value and significance of traditional art forms in shaping the identity and fostering the pride of the Filipino people.
