The awarding of the contract for the Upgrade, Expansion, Operation, and Maintenance of the Laguindingan Airport is expected to take place between May 2024 and February 2025. This was stated by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan during the 12th NEDA Board Meeting last December 14, 2023. The negotiations between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the proponent were conducted from September to November 2023.
It can be recalled that Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group submitted a PHP 42.7 billion project proposal for the main gateway of Northern Mindanao which involves a capacity augmentation program that includes the renovation and expansion of existing facilities including the passenger terminal building, installation of required equipment, and enhancement and development of airside facilities for a concession period of 35 years.
