Madridano, Chairperson of ABAI Weavers Multi-purpose Cooperative Association (ABAI-WMC) led the momentous occasion which aims to establish a NatDyes production hub and natural dyeing facility in the province. The project is set to contribute to technology dissemination and the expansion of the natural dye supply chain.

The NatDyes Hub initiative represents a collaborative effort towards sustainable development, community empowerment, and the preservation of traditional weaving practices. By creating production hubs and dyeing facilities, the project seeks to enhance the capabilities of local weavers and promote the rich heritage of natural dyes in the Philippines.

Furthermore, the groundbreaking ceremony marked a crucial step forward in realizing the goals of the project, emphasizing the commitment to fostering sustainable practices within the textile industry. As the NatDyes Hub Facilities project unfolds, it is expected to not only bolster the skills of local weavers but also serve as a beacon for the promotion and preservation of the country’s natural dyeing heritage.

Earlier, the DOST-PTRI and ABAI-WMC sealed a partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at solidifying the collaboration between DOST-PTRI and ABAI-WMC in advancing the natural dyes industry in Misamis Oriental. The initiative involves conducting training sessions aimed at imparting knowledge on coloring textiles using locally sourced natural dyes. Additionally, the project will provide essential implements and supplies necessary for the dyeing process.

Furthermore, DOST-PTRI’s strategic selection of ABAI-WMC as a project beneficiary is rooted in the cooperative’s robust handloom weaving community. Recognizing ABAI-WMC’s commitment to weaving excellence, the partnership aims to contribute to the expansion and fortification of the natural dyes industry by integrating it seamlessly into the textile continuum
