PROJECT WATCH: CDO Greenbelt – elevated pedestrian walkways eyed to connect CDO malls

A Cagayan de Oro City Councilor wants the city to undertake a comprehensive study, planning, funding, and execution of the CDO Greenbelt project. This initiative aims to create a network of elevated pedestrian walkways that would connect shopping malls and various establishments, with the dual goals of alleviating traffic congestion and encouraging physical activity. In his special report during the 57th Regular Session of the 20th City Council, City Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya emphasized that this long-discussed proposal is ripe for implementation and should be finally realized.

He called it Greenbelt, inspired by the area in Makati where pedestrians can seamlessly move from one mall to another without having to walk on the streets. Watch this interview of City Councilor Nacaya courtesy of iFM CDO.

It can be recalled that Cong. Rufus Rodriguez had a similar proposal which would connect Gaisano City Mall, Centrio Ayala Mall, SM CDO Downtown Premier, Limketkai Center and Northern Mindanao Medical Center. They also planned to connect the existing overpass between Centrio Ayala Mall and Gaisano City Mall to make walking safer, reduce traffic around the city’s largest malls, and encourage people to walk more.
