Mall-hopping in Cagayan de Oro City would soon be a lot safer when the proposed elevated covered walkway connecting Gaisano City Mall, Centrio Ayala Mall, SM CDO Downtown Premier and Limketkai Center will be realized. The said project as proposed by Rep. Rufus Rodriguez will start at Northern Mindanao Medical Center. The existing overpass between Ayala and Gaisano will likewise be connected to the said project which will provide a safer path for pedestrians, decongest the streets in between the biggest malls in the city, and also promote healthier habits of walking.

The proposed development of an elevated covered walkway will begin from the Northern Mindanao Medical Center crossing Corrales Avenue to Centrio Mall, crossing Capt. Vicente Roa St. and Osmeña St. to SM Downtown, all the way to the Gateway Tower in Limketkai. The project only covers the elevated walkway and respective malls will connect their 2nd floors to the elevated walkway at their expense.

Accordingly, Rep. Rodriguez has secured the endorsement of the Northern Mindanao – Region Development Council (RDC-X) for the P300 million project during the RDC-X Full Council Meeting last October 2022.

This was revealed during the courtesy visit of Mr. Joey M. Tumolva, SM Supermalls Regional Operations Manager to Rep. Rufus’ office where they discussed SM’s current operations in the city.
