The second Tourist Rest Area in Northern Mindanao will rise soon in Initao, Misamis Oriental, more specifically at the scenic Initao Seascape and Landscape or more popularly known as “Lasang, one of 15 that will be constructed next year. This was finally confirmed by Tourism Secretary Ma. Christina Frasco in her speech during the 24th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) National Convention held recently in Boracay.
At first, Initao was not part of the list of priority areas. However, during the budget hearing in August, Misamis Oriental Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano made a passionate plea for its inclusion, which was met with a favorable response from the department. As a result, “Lasang,” will now be included in the list of 15 Priority Tourist Rest Areas for 2024. This will be the second such area in the region, following Barangay Tankulan in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

Here’s the presentation of Sec. Frasco.
