Following the approval by the National Economic and Development Authority of the P12.75-billion unsolicited proposal for the upgrade, expansion, operation and maintenance of Laguindingan Airport, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) is looking at implementing Phase 1 of the public-private partnership (PPP) project starting next year until 2026 increasing its capacity from the current 1.6 million passengers to 3.9 million by the end of Phase 1 and to 6.1 million by the end of Phase 2.

This was disclosed by Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista during an economic briefing in Davao last week. Bautista said they are hoping they should be able to implement the first phase of the project starting 2024 to 2026, and the second phase from 2026 and beyond.
