Oplan: Task Force Puerto to round up all tricabs plying along National Highway starting July 27

Starting tomorrow, July 27, 2023, Oplan: Task Force Puerto in Cagayan de Oro City will be implementing Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular No. 2020-036 which prohibits tricycles, pedicabs and motorized pedicabs from operating on National Highways. This following the coordinative meeting by the task force created by City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy which aims to enforce the said DILG directive particularly along the boundaries of the highway from Barangay Lapasan to Bugo wherein tricabs and related means of transport have been identified as the cause of heavy traffic in the area particularly in Barangay Puerto.

The said coordination meeting involved the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), Land Transportation Office (LTO-10), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-10), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-10), Police Regional Office (PNP-10), Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-10) and other City Hall departments.

During the meeting, it was also gathered that tricabs or bao-bao do not even have respective franchises from LTFRB as well as registration from LTO which means they can only be utilized for private use. Accordingly, based on their record last March 2023, there were at least 450 units of tricabs operating in the city and the number could have increased since then.
