The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is planning to hold the Swiss challenge within the year for Laguindingan Airport and two other regional airports as proposed by AboitIz InfraCapital Inc. (AIC). A DOTr official has stated that the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is currently evaluating the unsolicited proposals and is hoping a decision can be reached soonest.

The Aboitiz Group will be investing around P12.75 billion for Laguindingan Airport. It earlier bagged the Original Proponent Status (OPS) to operate and maintain the said airport in 2019.
