Ruelle Canino from Cagayan de Oro City has bagged the girls’ under-16 crown in the recent 21st ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships in Bangkok, Thailand last Saturday, June 24. The 15-year old Canino scored 7.5 points after 9 rounds to rule the event. She was actually tied with top-seeded Ha Khan Linh of Vietnam but eventually won via tie-break where she completed the event undefeated with 6 wins and 3 draws. Congratulations!
Canino’s participation in the event was funded by the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
