Carlo Chiong from Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines has conquered the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, considered the dream of all trail runners located in the Dolomites in Italy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chiong who won the Mapawa Trail Series in 2018 finished the 120-kilometer race held last 23rd of June 2023 in 85th place in the 30-39 age category and among the 1,181 out of 1,551 runners who finished the race. He was the only Filipino finisher in the race. Congratulations!

Overall, Chiong was the 348th finisher with a total race time of 20 hours 21 minutes and 10 seconds. He ranked 85th in the 30-39 age category and 319th male finisher. See race result below.
La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail by UTMB® which was established in 2007 is the dream of all trail runners. It takes place in one of the most evocative landscapes of the UNESCO World Heritage – the Dolomites in Cortina d’Ampezzo, which in 2026 will host the Winter Olympics. The event offers 5 race distances with the most important of which is the Lavaredo 120K, with an elevation gain of 5,800 meters. See route map below.
The race takes runners along one of the most famous mountain ranges in Europe. 370 runners did not finish the race.
Just a week earlier (June 17), Chiong also competed and finished the Mozart 100 in Salzburg, Austria. He was with fellow Filipino trail runner friend Rowell Paner who is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A businessman, Chiong has been a rock climber for 8 years and a triathlete for 6 years. Among his recent trail running achievements were:
