The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is eyeing island-type reclamation along the Gusa-Puerto Coastal Road Project. This was stated by City Councilor Edgar Cabanlas during the recent ‘Ang Inyong Konseho Karon’ program hosted by the City Information Office. Accordingly, the island-type style is to minimize impact to the marine environment and allow the fisherfolk to continue with their livelihood. Meanwhile, Councilor Cabanlas also disclosed that they have already received an application from a private investor for 700-hectare reclamation project in Bulua.
It can be recalled that a joint study will be undertaken by the DPWH on an initial 20-hectare reclamation in the eastern side along the Coastal Road. It was further revealed that City Hall will also be undertaking the proposed reclamation project through a joint venture agreement with a private sector proponent. The sharing scheme is still being discussed.
