The former commander of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) based in Camp Vicente Alagar in Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City has been named by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Police Major General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., was Regional Director of PRO-10 from November 26, 2021 to August 8, 2022. He will serve as PNP Chief for only eight months as he is set to retire on December 3 this year.

A native of La Union, Acorda belongs to the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991. He was Chief of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence from August 2022 until his appointment as Chief PNP. He replaces Police General Azurin Jr. who retires today, coinciding with his 56th birthday, the mandatory retirement age in police service.
