Did you know that an alumna of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City is considered as the first ever Filipino astrophysicist? DR. JELLY GRACE B. NONESA, who completed her Master of Science in Physics at MSU-IIT in 1999, made history in March 2006 when she finished her PhD in Astrophysics at Hiroshima University in Japan where she focused on X-ray astronomy. She is the first of only three astrophysicists in the country.
After receiving her PhD in Astrophysics, Dr. Nonesa worked as a visiting professor and researcher at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejeon, South Korea.
A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Physics from Mindanao State University-Marawi in 1991, Dr. Nonesa is currently a professor at the Department of Physics, College of Science and Mathematics at the University of Southern Mindanao based in Kabacan, Cotabato Province.
