Lanao del Norte 1st Dist Rep. Mohamad Khalid Q Dimaporo wants the idle Balo-i Airport in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte to be converted into an air force base. In his explanatory note for House Bill 4218, Rep. Dimaporo stated that the airport which is an idle asset of the government is no longer being used for public transport and that converting it into an air base of the Philippine Air Force is also in line with the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The old Balo-i Airport also known as Maria Cristina Airport or Iligan Airport is currently being utilized by locals for exercising, jogging, biking and even drone flying.






Located some 1,300 feet or 396 meters above sea level, Balo-i Airport has the distinction of being the highest airport in Mindanao and the second-highest in the Philippines, next to Loakan Airport in Baguio.
