Following the announcement of Limketkai Center’s plan to reintroduce its Roller Skating Rink, a nostalgic wave swept through social media, with numerous netizens fondly recalling the joy of learning to roller skate during the mall’s early years. As anticipation grew for the revival of this attraction, many are taking a stroll down memory lane, reminiscing about the unforgettable experiences they had on wheels. Take a moment to transport yourself back to the early 1990s, when the mall had an open arcade-style concept. These images serve as a visual time capsule, allowing both new and seasoned visitors to appreciate the mall’s evolution over the years.

1990s

Before Limketkai Center was opened to the public, the property was initially referred to as a private park.

Construction

McDonald’s Limketkai was the first outside Luzon.

Here’s the iconic design of the old Kagay-anon Restaurant which was originally located at the present-day Shopwise.

Limketkai was the city’s first full scale mall.

This open space is now present-day Limketkai Module 2 & Cyberpark Building.

The amusement park has several thrill rides.

The roller skating rink was the centerpiece of the open air amusement park.

The popular bump cars was located at present-day Rotunda.

2000s

Mall Redevelopment – Limketkai underwent a major redevelopment after SM Prime started constructing its first mall in the city at Pueblo de Oro.

This is the East Entrance. Mercury Drug shown at left still occupies the same spot today.

This is the South Entrance. That’s Plaza Fair on the left which is now Robinsons Supermarket.

Dunkin Donuts and Alemars Book Store were among the pioneering mall tenants.

You can observe the steel columns as the mall was slowly being transformed from an open air into a covered mall.

The redevelopment included a rezoning of mall tenants. The space at right is now the present location of fast food chains.

Jollibee Limketkai still occupies the same space when it opened 3 decades ago.

Barney’s was among the favorite snack joints in the old days.

You can observe the steel frames of the roof. At right is the Atrium.

This was the North Entrance Canopy. This was the original location of KFC as shown at the back (left). That space of KFC is now occupied by National Bookstore. Observe the ongoing construction.

Plaza Fair is now Robinsons Department Store.
