Cagayan de Oro has been designated as one of four future regional nodes for AI infrastructure development under the Philippine AI+ Infrastructure Masterplan (PAIIM) 2026–2033, recently unveiled by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), positioning the city to play a supporting role in the country’s expanding artificial intelligence (AI) industry. The US$34.4-billion masterplan aims to expand the country’s AI data center capacity 30-fold, from 50 MW to 1.5 GW by 2033, with an initial 400 MW targeted by 2030. Alongside Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao, Cagayan de Oro is identified as a regional node that provides a strategic location for serving parts of Mindanao and linking to ASEAN neighbors like Indonesia.
