A 47-year-old police officer, Police Senior Master Sargeant Shelvib Cuajao Cabug of the Jimenez Municipal Police Station, died around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after sustaining serious injuries when he was hit by a speeding Mitsubishi Xpander while manning a checkpoint along the National Highway in Barangay Butuay, Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, at around 9:45 p.m. on September 21. CCTV footage showed the vehicle, which was traveling from Aloran toward Ozamiz City, initially striking the checkpoint signage before hitting Cabug, who was wearing his police uniform and a reflectorized vest. The driver, identified as a retired soldier and allegedly under the influence of alcohol, is currently under police custody for investigation.
