A 16-foot whale shark, locally known as “Taluki,” was found dead and stranded along the shallow waters of Purok 1, Barangay Bolisong, Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental, today, August 29, 2026. Personnel from the DENR, Philippine Coast Guard, and the local government unit responded to the incident and observed an approximately seven-inch wound near the whale shark’s head. The cause of death remains under investigation, while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is also conducting an assessment. BFAR advised that the carcass be buried promptly to prevent further decomposition and potential sanitation and environmental concerns.
