The initial phase of the Elevated Walkway Project along CM Recto Avenue in Cagayan de Oro is set to begin soon after securing ₱83 million in funding through the efforts of 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez. The project aims to improve pedestrian connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and enhance mobility between key areas including Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), Limketkai Center, and Agora Terminal. Discussions are ongoing with Ayala Malls for the installation and maintenance of escalators, while DPWH Region X is coordinating with DOTr to ensure compatibility with the proposed railway system. The ₱570-million project will be implemented in phases under a cash-based funding system.
Rep. Rodriguez gave an update of the Elevated Walkway Project along CM Recto Avenue during the recent NMMC Multi-Sector Governance Council meeting held at Seda Hotel, where representatives from various agencies and sectors discussed the its implementation focusing on improving pedestrian safety and accessibility in the area.
The initial phase (see below) will span approximately 150 meters from K1437+540 (Centrio Ayala Mall) to K1437+690 (Northern Mindanao Medical Center).
Accordingly, discussions are ongoing with Ayala Malls regarding the installation and maintenance of escalators, with the project patterned after the Makati elevated walkway system, which Cong. Rufus Rodriguez personally inspected in March to study its design and features. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region X Planning Division, led by Atty. Jessie Tutor, is coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure the walkway’s design will be compatible with the proposed railway system along the same corridor.
