A Year Ago Today (April 5, 2025), two student nurses from Liceo de Cagayan University—Sophia Celestial and Rodbert Sumagpao—together with their clinical instructor, safely delivered a baby inside a moving jeepney in Barangay San Simon, Cagayan de Oro City after responding to a woman in labor with no ambulance available. Both mother and child were later brought to a hospital in stable condition.

According to a Facebook post by the Liceo de Cagayan University – College of Nursing, the incident occurred on April 5, 2025, while two student nurses were on Community Health Nursing (CHN) duty when a daughter sought their help for her mother who had gone into labor. Recognizing the urgency, the student nurses, together with their clinical instructor, Mr. Benie Baldoman, RN, immediately responded and reached the mother just as her water broke.

With no ambulance readily available due to the area’s distance, they decided to transport the laboring mother using their CHN service jeepney. While en route, the baby’s head began to crown, prompting the team to perform an emergency delivery inside the vehicle. The baby was successfully delivered before reaching a medical facility, and both mother and child were later brought to a nearby hospital, where they arrived in stable condition.
