The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is closely monitoring the tanker MT Cheng Xian Feng 168, which ran aground in the town of Burgos on Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte on Sunday, January 11. The vessel had departed Cagayan de Oro City bound for Homonhon, Leyte, when engine trouble caused it to drift ashore. No oil spill was reported, but authorities are checking for possible hull damage. All nine Filipino crew members were safely rescued, and towing operations are ongoing while the PCG continues to monitor the vessel to protect the environment.

The vessel was carrying approximately 3,500 liters of diesel fuel for consumption.
