RANDOM SHOTS: Endless steel drain cover repairs frustrate residents, cause traffic on Kauswagan–Igpit Diversion Road

Residents along the Kauswagan–Igpit Diversion Road—particularly the stretch from the Seaoil Gas Station and Jollibee Diversion toward Domvee Crossing (Optimus Fuel) or San Lucas Street in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City—are expressing frustration over the seemingly endless repair of steel grill drain covers by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The recurring roadworks continue to cause traffic congestion, especially since this roadway is used by large delivery vans and trailer trucks. Many residents say they have “lost count,” as an exaggeration, of how many times the same steel drains have been repaired.

In several instances, residents noted that the steel grill covers were loosely installed, creating loud noises as vehicles pass over them. Cracks in the surrounding concrete reportedly reappear just weeks after repairs are completed, prompting yet another round of construction. At present, at least five to six steel grill drain covers along the westbound lanes have recently undergone another repair, further inconveniencing motorists and raising concerns over the durability and quality of the work.
