Fuel tanker plunges off cliff and into a ravine near Macahambus Gorge in CDO, driver killed

A fuel tanker truck plunged off a cliff and into a ravine near Macahambus Gorge in Barangay Bayanga, Cagayan de Oro City, at around 5:00 a.m. on December 22, 2025, killing its driver, authorities confirmed. Initial findings suggest the driver may have dozed off while behind the wheel. The tanker was reportedly en route to Cagayan de Oro’s city proper when the accident happened. Authorities continue to assess the incident and have renewed their call for motorists—especially drivers of heavy vehicles—to stay alert when navigating mountainous and winding roads.

The victim was identified as Johnny Villanueva, 46, a resident of Talakag, Bukidnon. Authorities said he was alone inside the tanker truck when it plunged into the ravine. Watch this interview courtesy of iFM CDO.
