Police in Cagayan de Oro City are conducting a thorough investigation into the death of 15-year-old Matthew Patrick Sumaylo, a Grade 10 student of Liceo de Cagayan University, whose body was discovered on Friday morning, December 5, by Bantay Dagat volunteers floating along Cagayan de Oro River at Zone 1, Barangay Bonbon. The student had been reported missing since December 3, 2025 and was last seen leaving the school.
Initial investigation showed the victim was last seen at school before telling his family he would go home via an Angkas ride. His family said they never believed Matthew would take his own life, noting he showed no signs of distress. Authorities are now reviewing nearby CCTV footage to trace his movements and identify anyone he may have interacted with before he went missing.
