Police have arrested 17-year-old “Botsoy,” a car wash worker from Baungon, Bukidnon, for the killing of Gingoog City Health Office administrative officer Downey “Gugolle” Valdevilla, Jr. The suspect confessed to the crime, which took place inside the victim’s Starex van on November 14 near Port Area in Barangay 16, Gingoog City. After the killing, he drove the van to Claveria, abandoned it in Jasaan, and returned to Gingoog by bus. CCTV footage showing the suspect and victim together at the scene helped authorities track him. Police recovered the victim’s iPhone, wallet (empty), and other belongings, along with the suspect’s blood-stained clothing, but the weapon was discarded.
The suspect is now detained at the Gingoog City Police Office and will face charges of robbery with homicide. Because he is a minor, he will be placed under the custody of Balay Pangarap.

The victim’s van was found abandoned along the National Highway in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, with the victim found dead inside, bearing multiple stab wounds.

The victim, who is a member of the LGBTQ community is the son of a retired judge.
