The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau Region 10 (DENR-EMB 10) has issued a Show Cause Order to the City Government of Cagayan de Oro after an inspection of the city’s sanitary landfill on September 11 revealed multiple violations. Among the findings were continued dumping of waste on an unlined access road to Cell 3, a nearly overflowing wastewater pond, and possible leachate leakage into Buracan Creek. In its letter dated September 18, the DENR-EMB directed the city to take immediate corrective action.

This comes as the city is also moving to terminate the contract with the Joint Venture Agreement between Jomara Konstruckt Corporation and Tencil Construction Inc. for failure to properly operate and maintain the sanitary landfill. The contract was only awarded in March of this year (see below).
