Garbage collection in Cagayan de Oro remains hampered despite the entry of a new contractor, as poor road conditions leading to the city’s sanitary landfill continue to cause major delays. Slow-moving trucks struggle to reach the site, creating backlogs and leaving trash uncollected in several barangays. Frustrated residents have taken to social media to air their concerns over garbage piling up in neighborhoods, citing not only inconvenience but also health risks. Many also believe that unless the access road is repaired and made more passable, collection delays will persist—regardless of which contractor is in charge.
The landfill is located about 6 kilometers from Barangay Lumbia proper and is accessible via a two-lane concrete road. However, road conditions begin to deteriorate upon entering the landfill area.
