The BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), the Philippine Navy’s newest and most advanced guided-missile frigate, is making a two-day visit to Cagayan de Oro. Built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea, the ship was commissioned on May 20, 2025 during the Navy’s 127th anniversary. At 118.4 meters long and 14.9 meters wide, the frigate carries a crew of 105 and can travel up to 4,500 nautical miles at speeds of 25 knots. It is equipped with modern weapons and sensors, including C-Star anti-ship missiles, a vertical launch system, and a 3D AESA radar, making it one of the Navy’s most capable warships.

With the BRP Miguel Malvar leading the fleet, the Philippine Navy is poised to boost its maritime defense—marking a new era of strength, deterrence, and pride at sea. Check out photos from its first day of free public viewing. For security reasons, photography inside the ship was not allowed.
