PROJECT WATCH: DPWH-10 submits 3 design options for Agus Bridge Replacement

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-10) has submitted three design options—a classic steel truss, an elegant arch, and a modern cable-stayed bridge—to the Iligan City government for the replacement of the 47-year-old, 104-meter Agus Bridge along the Overton-Buru-un Road (National Highway), which was built in 1978 but now suffers from serious structural damage, including cracks, corrosion, and material loss likely worsened by earthquakes. Traffic has been reduced to one lane, with a detour bridge in place while the city reviews the proposals and decides on the preferred design. If you were to choose, which design would you prefer?

Here’s the transmittal letter from DPWH-10.

A. CLASSIC STEEL TRUSS BRIDGE

B. ELEGANT ARCH BRIDGE

C. MODERN CABLE-STAYED BRIDGE

City Mayor Frederick Siao posted the three proposed designs on Facebook, asking residents for their preferred option, with the elegant arch bridge emerging as the clear favorite.

Furthermore, funding for the bridge replacement project remains uncertain pending the approval of the final design.
