Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Joyleen Mercedes “Girlie” Balaba has proposed an ordinance to adopt the Higaonon word “Maayad,” as an official greeting in government offices. “Maayad” means good, peaceful and beautiful. She emphasized that it reflects kindness and inclusivity. Indigenous Peoples’ Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Councilor Roberto Cabaring supported the initiative, saying it would help promote indigenous culture in the mainstream. The proposal was referred to the Committee on Tourism. What are your thoughts?
