Bukidnon State University (BukSU) in Malaybalay City is now in the process of securing the necessary permits and clearances for its College of Medicine—the first in Bukidnon. Preparations for the program’s facilities are also underway to meet required standards. Just recently, officials from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted a technical panel evaluation for BukSU’s Doctor of Medicine program on June 10–11, 2025. University officials remain optimistic that they will be able to start accepting students soon.

It can be recalled that House Bill No. 11459 establishing a College of Medicine in BukSU was approved on 3rd and final reading last June 9 and transmitted to the Senate on June 11.

Recently, BukSU, represented by its President Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, and Malaybalay Polymedic General Hospital (MPGH), represented by its Director Dr. Melquisedes L. Po, formalized a partnership to further strengthen medical education in Northern Mindanao. This was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and the inauguration of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory, which aims to enhance practical training for aspiring doctors. The facility will be named the Dr. M. Po Clinical Simulation Laboratory in his honor.

On June 10-11, 2025, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) held a technical panel evaluation for BukSU’s Doctor of Medicine program. The technical panel evaluation is a standard procedure mandated CHED for medical schools in the Philippines, which aims to assess various aspects of the program, including the curriculum, faculty qualifications, adequacy of facilities, clinical affiliations with partner hospitals, and student support services.
