RANDOM SHOTS: Malunggay Pandesal with Cheese on Wheels

Have you tried the Malunggay Pandesal with Cheese on Wheels yet? These rolling bakeries—tricycles customized with an oven, trays of freshly baked pandesal, and LPG tanks—are now a common sight in the suburbs of Cagayan de Oro City and around the province. Sold at an affordable ₱5 each, this healthier twist on the classic pandesal is made with malunggay leaves mixed into the dough and filled with cheese. Soft, slightly sweet, and flavorful, it’s the perfect on-the-go snack or breakfast treat.

These mobile pandesal vendors are commonly found near subdivisions and residential villages. The one shown below was spotted in Upper Carmen.

Once your order, the pandesal is taken from the tray and heated in the oven before serving.

They’re served hot and fresh, straight from the oven.

Although it’s advertised as malunggay pandesal with cheese, only a small amount of malunggay appears to be mixed into the dough and also less cheese.

Nevertheless, pandesal is still pandesal—and it remains a timeless favorite among Filipinos.
