Good news for coffee lovers and aspiring aficionados in Cagayan de Oro and nearby areas! H Proper Coffee Roasters is set to host 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion Matt Winton for a special Brewing Masterclass and Intimate Cupping Sessions on May 19–20. The event will take place at H Proper Coffee Roasters along Masterson Avenue at Pueblo de Oro.
Winton is an Australian-born coffee professional who gained international acclaim by winning the 2021 World Brewers Cup, representing Switzerland. His victory at the competition in Milan marked a significant achievement in the specialty coffee world.
Winton’s competitive journey includes winning the Swedish Barista Championship in 2018 and 2019, and placing 8th at the 2018 World Barista Championship. In 2020, he shifted focus to the Brewers Cup, winning the Swiss national title and eventually the world championship in 2021. His winning brew was a blend of Catucai and the rare Eugenioides species, noted for its intense sweetness and minimal bitterness. He used a Hario V60 dripper and a meticulous five-pour method to highlight the coffee’s unique flavors.
Joining Winton is 2022 UK Brewers champion Sierra Yeo. She will be part of the H Proper café brewing workshops, and one-hour intimate cupping sessions.
