Families and friends of two doctors have condemned the use of their photos in anti-Duterte rallies, clarifying that their murders were not EJK or drug-related and had no connection to former President Rodrigo Duterte. Dr. Winston Andutan, a well-known urologist and Medical Director of Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital in Cagayan de Oro, was shot dead on December 2, 2021. His killers are now in jail. Meanwhile, Dr. Dreyfuss Perlas, a volunteer doctor under the Doctors to the Barrios Program in Lanao del Norte, was murdered on March 1, 2017. The suspect, a security guard, was arrested in 2022. In its statement below, the Health Alliance for Democracy included both doctors among those killed under what it calls Duterte’s “reign of terror.”
