PROJECT WATCH: Road Reblocking, Widening of Canitoan Road from Silver Creek to Marlags Junction

Motorists passing through PN Roa Sr Avenue in Calaanan are already dealing with heavy traffic due to the city’s road reblocking project, and it may soon get worse. The DPWH has started bidding for the Road Reblocking and Widening Project (4 lanes), which includes sidewalks and solar LED roadway lighting along Canitoan Road, from near Silver Creek to Marlags Junction. Covering 944.37 meters, the project has an approved budget of P49.5 million and a duration of 394 calendar days to complete.

The road reblocking and widening project is also subject to changes because of the ongoing West Diversion Road Construction Project which is nearing Marlags Junction. Here’s the alignment.

Once construction begins, those travelling uptown from Canitoan, Pagatpat, Iponan, and Bulua via SM Bypass Road should expect even heavier traffic. Additionally, a new bridge is being proposed to replace the existing box culvert over Calaanan Creek near The Midtown by Vista Estates. However, further studies are still needed since the bridge must be taller than the current flood control structure in the area.

Below are photos of the project site.

The road will now be 4 lanes.

A total 100 solar LED roadway lighting structures will also be installed.

Meanwhile, a bridge is also being proposed along the same alignment, specifically over Calaanan Creek to replace the current box culvert.

During the pre-bid conference, it was noted that further studies are required to finalize the bridge design. The existing flood control structure onsite is taller than the current road, and design standards require the new bridge must be built higher than the flood control structure.

Keep posted.
