Nurse who protected patient in fatal ambulance crash hailed as a hero

A nurse who died protecting his patient during an ambulance crash in Dableston, Sultan Naga Dimaporo in Lanao del Norte, has been hailed a hero. Jasper Alcala, a nurse from Pagadian City Medical Center, was found by rescuers embracing the patient they were transporting to Cagayan de Oro, as the ambulance veered off the highway and plunged into a deep embankment last Sunday, February 2, 2025. While the patient, ambulance driver, and a watcher survived, Alcala succumbed to his injuries, sacrificing his life in the line of duty. Many have taken to social media their condolences and admiration, honoring Alcala for his sacrifice in saving others’ lives.

Pagadian City Mayor Sammy Co released a statement following the incident.
