Another major infrastructure project is being planned for Cagayan de Oro City. The proposed Marcos Bridge – Bulua Skyway will be an elevated highway connecting Marcos Bridge to Bulua Highway just before Iponan Bridge. It aims to bypass the busy junctions in Kauswagan and Bulua areas. During the “Urban Connect x LocalLab: Building a Future-Ready Cagayan de Oro City” forum held last September 26, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Mylah Aurora Faye B. Cariño in her presentation showed that the Feasibility Study of the proposal will be included in FYs 2025-2028.

Here is our own rendition of the unofficial alignment of the skyway project based on the presentation. Based on the graphic, the elevated highway is planned to end in Bulua just after the intersection of the New Western Diversion Road. However, it might be beneficial to extend the skyway further to bypass Barra Junction, another area known for heavy traffic congestion during rush hours. Extending the elevated highway could significantly improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks in this busy area.

Keep posted.
