In a joint operation led by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and various police units in Camiguin, authorities arrested a top priority drug personality in MIndanao. Ruby Mapute Gerona, 40, a resident of Barangay Sangay, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, was apprehended in Barangay Cabuan, Guinsiliban, Camiguin Province, last on September 18, 2024. The operation resulted in the seizure of over P1.5 million worth of suspected shabu.
Accounted in the seizure include the approximate 5 grams of shabu worth P34,000 brought during the buy-bust operation and approximately 220 grams of shabu estimated at P1,496,000 found in her possession.
Report from PDEA revealed that the arrested suspect is not a native of Camiguin but was operating from outside the province. She now faces charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Although Camiguin is recognized as a drug-cleared province, the operation shows that illegal drugs can still enter. In response, the PDEA, along with local law enforcement and the Local Government of Camiguin, continues to work closely to protect the community and keep the province drug-free.
The units involved in the operation include the PDEA Regional Office XIII – Regional Special Enforcement Team (RSET), the PDEA Regional Office X – Camiguin Provincial Office, Guinsiliban Municipal Police Station, Camiguin Provincial Intelligence Unit, and Camiguin Provincial Investigation Team.
