Hinam-is: Cagayan de Oro’s homegrown producer of sweet treats and goodies opens largest commissary

Hinam-is, a homegrown food manufacturing company based in Cagayan de Oro City, has inaugurated its newest and largest commissary today, July 30. Known for its bestsellers, pyramid yema and pastillas with filling, Hinam-is’s latest facility is located at Mabini Street, Ramiroville, Biasong Tinib in Macasandig. The new commissary marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion, aiming to meet the growing demand for its popular products. The facility is expected to enhance production capabilities, ensuring that customers continue to enjoy their beloved treats.

Hinam-is has taken advantage of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to incorporate technological innovations into their operations. This strategic initiative has significantly enhanced their productivity and competitiveness. The upgraded machines have led to faster and larger production output, highlighting the company’s commitment to efficiency and growth.

Hinam-is had its humble beginnings in 2008 in the home kitchen of couple Meynardo and Maria Lourdes Carpio at Camella Homes in Upper Balulang. What started as a fun activity turned into a business when the couple shared their homemade baked goodies with close family and friends at small gatherings. Soon, they expanded to selling to friends of friends and other acquaintances. They then began to peddle their products to local stores, where their delicious treats gained recognition. Eventually, larger and more popular supermarkets started stocking Hinam-is products on their shelves, marking the company’s growth and success. Hinam-is means “dessert” in Visayan.

While pyramid yema and pastillas with filling are its bestsellers, Hinam-is also offers a wide variety of fruit bars, polvoron, tarts, pies and puffs.

Their products can now be found in convenience stores as well as in bigger and popular supermarkets and grocery stores nationwide.

You can also find Hinam-is kiosks in malls.
