Haven’t been to a lighthouse up close? ICYMI, the Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao through its Maritime Safety Services Unit – Northern Mindanao (MSSU-NM) has opened to the public two lighthouses – Light Station Sulauan located at Brgy. Moog, Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental and Light Station Oroquieta in San Vicente, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental. These two lighthouses will be open to the public from 08:00AM – 05:00PM until July 31, 2024. This is in celebration of the World Marine Aids to Navigation (WATON) as established by the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA).

One of the primary functions of IALA is to develop and raise awareness regarding marine aids to navigation, promoting its significant role in guiding, specifically in ensuring a harmonious, safe, and efficient maritime transportation of local and international ships and vessels.

Visitors should follow the guidelines provided by the attending PCG personnel in the said area to ensure the safety and operability of the above-mentioned lighthouses.
