Cagayan de Oro City has made the list of 1,000 largest urban economies in the world based on the 2024 Oxford Economics Global Cities Index. The city ranked third among nine Philippine cities in the list ranking 487th globally. Other cities in the list are Manila (#256), Cebu (#379), Davao (#500), Angeles (#502), Bacolod (#538), Dagupan (#604), Zamboanga (#695) and General Santos (#723). The rankings are based on five categories: economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. See the rankings of the Philippine cities below.

The Oxford Economics’ Global Cities Index 2024 covers the 1,000 largest cities in the world in 163 different countries.

The cities are scored across five different categories to achieve a well-rounded comparison of locations. These are economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.
