A new 44.3-kilometer mountain alternate road will soon connect Butuan City in Caraga Region to Gingoog City in Northern Mindanao. The proposed Butuan City – Gingoog City Alternate Road (BCGCAR) will begin along the Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II Avenue (Butuan Diversion Road) and will pass through the rolling and mountainous terrain in the municipalities of Buenavista and Nasipit in Agusan del Norte Province. The proposed alternate inter-regional road will end in Barangay Odiongan in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental.
The BCGCAR is proposed as an alternate inter-regional road of the existing Butuan City – Cagayan de Oro – Iligan Road (BCIR). It will consist of approximately 44.3 km road and six permanent bridge structures. It will reduce travel distance between Butuan City and Gingoog City from 60 km to a little more than 40 km.
There were actually alternative alignments considered during the Feasibility Study for BCGCAR. The initial conceptual alignment options are tabulated below while the location of the alternative alignments is shown in Figure 2.
The proposed 44.3 km road will consist of three sections that will pass through nine barangays in two cities and two municipalities. The length per section, cities/municipalities, and barangays traversed by the selected road alignment is tabulated below while the map per road section is shown in Figure 3 (Section 1), Figure 4 (Section 2), and Figure 5 (Section 3).
SECTION 1 – BUTUAN-BUENAVISTA (9.99 KM)
SECTION 2 – BUENAVISTA-NASIPIT (18.44 KM)
SECTION 3 – NASIPIT-GINGOOG (15.87 KM)
