The Fish Landing Area in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City will soon be transferred in a one-hectare property in Bonbon. This was confirmed by Engr. Armen Cuenca of the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) during a radio interview early today. This designated site is part of the 3-hectare area allocated for the city’s planned sewerage system facility. The decision comes after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-10) issued a notice of violation to the operator of the fish landing area due to lack of a wastewater treatment facility.

As per DENR-10, operating the fish landing area without a functional wastewater treatment facility is a violation of Republic Act No. 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

Engr. Cuenca also said that the transfer is already imminent with the presence of malls and other commercial establishments in the area which are affected by the foul odor coming from the fish landing area.

Everyday, fish trucks coming from as far as Zamboanga and General Santos converge on this area in Cagayan de Oro to unload tons of fish and other marine products.
