The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is set to open a College of Law soon possibly in 2025. This following the approval of its Board of Regents (BOR) to begin complying with the requirements needed to open a law degree program in USTP. This was revealed by Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Cong. Rufus Rodriguez, a member of the USTP BOR, who is the main proponent for the proposal. He emphasized the need to provide indigent students the opportunity to pursue a degree in law and fulfill their dreams of becoming a lawyer.
Cong. Rufus stated that USTP offering a law degree program will give aspiring lawyers in Cagayan de Oro who are not able to afford the expensive tuition fees in other schools a chance to become lawyers.

It can be recalled that Cong Rufus was also the proponent for the establishment of the College of Medicine in USTP which opened last August 2023 as well as the College of Nursing which will be opened in August 2024.

Dionel Albina, USTP Claveria Chancellor Renato Arazo, NEDA-10 Regional Director Mylah Faye Cariño, CHED-10 Regional Director Freddie Bernal, USTP Claveria S&T Park Manager Clint Django Pacana, and USTP Student Councils Federation President Charmaine Nokom.
