In case you didn’t know it yet, the former Xavier University Grade School in Macasandig is now the new Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) Cagayan de Oro Campus. Yesterday, August 29, City Vice Mayor Jocelyn “Bebot” Rodriguez joined PMMA Superintendent Commodore Joel Y Abutal and DepEd-X Regional Director Dr. Arturo Bayocot, CESO III, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and official opening of the new PMMA Cagayan de Oro Campus with the first batch for its Senior High School Program. It is the first campus of the state-run nautical school outside of San Narciso, Zambales.
It can be recalled that the establishment of the PMMA Cagayan de Oro Campus was finally realized by virtue of Republic Act No. 11782 authored by Congressman Rufus Rodriguez.

A few weeks back, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed between PMMA-CdeO and Xavier University for the use of the XU Macasandig Campus as the site for the Senior High School Program of PMMA. XU’s basic education program has been transferred to its Pueblo campus.

PMMA Assistant Superintendent for Admin and Finance Capt. Ronnie Basco, representing PMMA Superintendent Commo. Joel Abutal, and Xavier University President Fr. Mars Tan expressed their shared enthusiasm for the bright future of aspiring PMMA cadets in the city.
