A local barangay tanod of Lingion, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon recently found and rescued a Giant Scops Owl last July 29, 2023. Based on the report, Barangay Tanod Marlon D. Batao spotted the owl after seeing it fall from the sky at around 3:00pm that day. He immediately brought it the Office of the Barangay Council and contacted the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) who in turn coordinated with Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO).

Upon the arrival of MENRO staff Ronald E. Baslan and Forester Cherry D. Taray of DENR-CENRO, it was determined that the bird is really a Giant Scops Owl. Upon further examination of the owl, they found out it had no wounds and injuries. They then released it back into the wild away from residential areas.

The giant scops owl is rated as “Vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in its Red List of Threatened Species.
