Misamis Oriental athlete Janry Ubas won the long jump gold in the Motonet Grand Prix in Lappeenranta, Finland last July 19 then followed it up with another gold medal in the Triveneto Meeting Internazionale in Trieste, Italy last July 21 to boost his chances of qualifying for the World Championships slated August 19-27, 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.
The 29-year old Ubas leaped 7.86 meters for the gold in Finland then stunned Tokyo Olympian Lester Lescay Gay of Cuba for the gold in Italy to earn points in the World Athletics rankings, which will be updated on July 25.

He is expected to move up from his current No. 53 ranking and hopes to break the Top 36 to advance to Budapest next month. From Italy, he will proceed to Germany for the International Stuttgarter Athletics Meeting on July 29, the last event before the World Championships.
If he makes it, he will join pole vaulter EJ Obiena and hurdler Robyn Brown who have already earned World Championships berths.
