A businessman was wounded following an ambush along Quezon Avenue in Poblacion, Iligan City at around 4:20pm Monday, July 17, 2023. A CCTV footage of the incident made the rounds of social media yesterday. Reports revealed the victim was on board his Ford Everest when the suspects in a black Toyota Hilux vehicle pulled over beside it, opened fire and sped off. Fortunately, a police officer was near the crime scene and tailed the suspects giving information to Communication Center of Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) resulting to the suspects’ arrest near Merila Bridge in Barangay Ubaldo Laya less than an hour later.
Police identified the victim as Junaid M. Punguinaguina, a resident of Bubong, Lanao del Sur, who sustained a gunshot wound in his buttock. He was rushed to Mindanao Sanitarium Hospital. Watch the CCTV footage below.
The suspects were identified as Abdulgafur Macaraya Potawan, 31, from Valencia City, Bukidnon, Aladin Macaraya Andang, 43, from Ceanuri, Camague, Iligan City and Abdul Rashid Pacasum Macaraya, 30, from Marantao, Lanao del Sur. They are now at the detention facility of ICPO facing charges of frustrated murder. Police are looking at rido as the possible motive of the shooting. The victim owns a shop in Quezon City selling mobile phones and accessories
